What Is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)?

Full form of CPA is Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a classification granted to individuals who pass the Standardized CPA Examination and meet the standards of education and experience by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). As far as examination registration is concerned, the CPA exam fee remains the same in India. Students have to bear additional accommodation and travel costs because they can only appear in the US for the exams. However, because of the prevailing pandemic conditions, the year 2020 has become an exception and candidates from India can apply for the CPA exam. The CPA examination in India will be conducted in 8 Indian cities. CPA exam centers in India are located in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Trivandrum. The US CPA institute has also launched a continuous testing window starting from 1st July 2020, which will allow students to appear for the CPA exams all year round.

Format of CPA Exam:

In the CPA exam, there are four sections:

  • Ordinance (REG)
  • Attestation and Auditing (AUD)
  • Accounting for finances and reporting (FAR)
  • Concepts and Business Environment (BEC)

The CPA exam is administered by the AICPA. The total exam duration is 16 hours (4 hours for each section).

Exam locations: The CPA examination will take place in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Trivandrum in India.

CPA Cost: $1000 for CPA exam fees and $1500 for international testing fees. In addition, $225 for assessment cost INR 2,00,000 without training fee for the overall CPA exam.

The agenda behind conducting the US CPA exam in India is to avoid international travel for the Indian CPA aspirants in this uncertain time. The decision helps the Indian students to ease the burden of travelling to countries like Dubai, United States, for writing the CPA exam.
